Rough Cut Studio
Privacy Policy
Last updated 1 November 2026
This policy explains what personal information Rough Cut Studio collects through roughcut-studio.com, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. We collect as little as we can: this site has no analytics trackers, no advertising pixels and no cookies.
Who we are
Rough Cut Studio (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2026/672247/07), a company registered in South Africa, decides how the personal information described here is used. That makes us its responsible party under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and its controller under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You can reach us at contact@roughcut-studio.com. Postal address: 286B Milner Street, Waterkloof, Pretoria, Gauteng, 0181, South Africa.
What we collect
When you send us a brief through the contact form, we collect:
- your name,
- your email address,
- your message, and anything you choose to tell us in it,
- that you ticked the box agreeing to this policy, and when you sent the form.
Giving us these details is your choice, but we need your name, email address and message to reply. Please don't include sensitive information (such as health or financial details) in your message. If you email us directly, we receive your email address and whatever your email contains.
Like every website, ours is served by a host that keeps standard server logs: your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and when. These are used to deliver the site, keep it secure and produce anonymous traffic totals. We don't use them to identify you.
Why we use it
- To read and reply to your enquiry.
- To prepare a proposal or quote if you ask for one.
- To keep a record of our conversation if we go on to work together.
The legal grounds we rely on are:
- your consent, which you give by ticking the box on the contact form, and which you can withdraw at any time;
- taking steps at your request before a contract, when you ask us for a proposal or quote;
- our legitimate interest in running a secure website, for the server logs.
We don't use your information for marketing, we don't add you to a mailing list, we don't make automated decisions about you, and we never sell it.
Who else handles it
We only share your information with the services that run this site and our email, and only so they can do that job:
- Netlify, our website host, stores contact form submissions and keeps the server logs described above.
- Akismet, used by Netlify to check form submissions for spam, receives the content of your submission for that check.
- Our email provider holds the notification of your submission and any emails we exchange.
Netlify and Akismet are based in the United States, so your information is processed outside South Africa, the EU and the UK. They handle it under data processing terms that bind them to protect it to the standard those laws require, including, for transfers from the EU and the UK, the safeguards the GDPR requires for international transfers, such as Standard Contractual Clauses. We'll also share information where the law requires it.
Everything else on this site, including its fonts, images and film, is served from our own hosting. No other company receives information about your visit. Links to our Instagram, TikTok and Facebook pages take you to those platforms, where their own privacy policies apply.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiries for up to 12 months after our last contact, then delete them. If we work together, we keep the records we need for that project and for our tax and legal obligations, for as long as the law requires.
Keeping it safe
This site is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and access to form submissions and our inbox is limited to the people at Rough Cut Studio who need it to reply to you.
Your rights
You can ask us, at any time and free of charge, to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you, and give you a copy,
- correct it,
- delete it,
- limit how we use it, or object to us using it,
- send it to you, or to another organisation, in a common electronic format,
- withdraw the consent you gave when you sent the form. This doesn't affect anything we did with it before.
Email contact@roughcut-studio.com and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za. If you're in the European Union, you can complain to the data protection authority in your country, and in the United Kingdom to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
This site is meant for businesses and isn't aimed at anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect or how we use it changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
